A FOCUS ON BUDGET 2014
Media reports today suggest that the Government may increase PRSI in the upcoming budget.
An advisory group has recommended the rate should go up from the current rate of 4pc to 5.5pc to fund extra social benefits for those who work for themselves.
It’s reported Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton will consider the proposals in an attempt to meet current budgetary deficits.
There has been angry reaction from a number of groups representing small and medium enterprises.
Mark Fielding of ISME says, “This is a 37.5pc increase for the self-employed and proprietary directors in contributions. In the current climate that is just madness.”
